About

This blog is a chronicle of  life on Earth as observed by me from my particular POV in a pink apartment in downtown Santa Barbara, California.

Whatever happens to be interesting, inspiring or generally excellent will be blogged about here with an emphasis on beauty in the mundane.  We are surrounded by good shit and sometimes neglect to notice.  This shall be a haven for the good shit:  Music!  Art!  Fashion!  Literature!  Santa Barbara!  People!

Also, a note about the name:  Santa Barb’rans are sometimes called Santa Barbarians.  This suits my belief that although my town is brimming with lovely domestics, inside each one of our polite, house-trained, upstanding selves dwells a feral and mutinous other self.  This inner wild thing is what both inspires and craves the good shit.  This blog is dedicated to that other self and its additctions.

I am so happy I found this. I just bought a harmonium…please help me find a barbaric harmonium teacher. I love your blog..how cool.

    • How fantastic that you bought a harmonium! They are truly incredible instruments, and a lot of fun to play. I would hardly classify myself as good enough to teach anybody the harmonium, and don’t really know anyone who could, but if you have any piano experience you already have the basics. No piano experience? Fret not! I would recommend scouring youtube for some elementary piano lessons in which they focus on using the right hand (since with the harmonium you’ll be using one hand to pump the bellows). Once you feel comfortable with that, look for some left hand lessons, and wha-bam, you’ll be playing the harmonium. The wonderful thing is that you can keep it simple and it will still be full and powerful sound. Here’s a little inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CHqKL0cePw (the first song begins at around 1:50) , and a little practical advice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7q9CRKB1ns . Best of luck! And thanks for reading my blog! I have neglected it and want to start posting again soon, so I really appreciate your enthusiasm.
